Jay-Z has received some “feedback” regarding his song “Empire State of Mind,” which features Alicia Keys on the hook, off his new album Blueprint 3. Many people have expressed worry about a phrase in the song that appears to criticize Jesus Christ. This is an extract from verse 3.
Mommy took a bus trip, now she got her bust out
Everybody ride her just like a bus route
Hail Mary to the city, you’re a virgin
And Jesus can’t save you
Life begins when the church ends
I used to say ‘bleep mic skills,’ and never prayed to God, I prayed to
Gotti
D’evils
Ain’t nobody fresher
I’m in Maison (huh) Martin Margiela
Run This Town
A couple of videos on YouTube show us different opinions on these quotes from the Blueprint 3 Ablum.
I’ll try to post them and see your take on this.
Some claim that Jay-Z’s words were taken out of context and that he wasn’t genuinely criticizing Jesus or the church. Is it possible to declare without a doubt that Jay-Z was taking a hit at Jesus? No. BUT… Is it possible to interpret Jay-Z’s words as “Jesus can’t save you?” Most emphatically. In other words, while Jay-Z did not want to “diss Jesus,” he could have phrased his message better.
Some Dude Talking About the ‘Jesus Can’t Save You’ line.
He tries to imply that Jay-Z is going on a head-on opposition against christians.
And even talks about the ‘life begins when the church ends’ line.
And he goes on to call Jay-Z the anti-christ.
